Getting started
How to set up billing in Laced
Open Billing, add a card and address, and tap Create. If a detail is wrong, Laced shows a message and a red border on that field, and you fix it and try again.
Updated
Open Billing from the main navigation and start a new billing profile.
Billing is the first thing to set up. The entry screens elsewhere in the app stay closed until you have created one profile.
Fill in every required field, cardholder name, card number, expiry, security code, and the full billing address.
Address Line 1 is the field that fails most often. Enter it exactly as your bank holds it, unit number included.
Tap Create. If the details pass, the sheet closes on its own and the profile appears on the Billing page.
That is the whole job. There is no waiting period and no status to watch afterwards.
If a detail is wrong, fix it on the create screen.
Laced shows a message and puts a red border on the field it does not accept, for example an invalid Zip. The profile is not created until you fix it and tap Create again.
Update a profile when your bank sends you a new card.
Cards expire and banks reissue them. A profile that worked last month can stop working once the card behind it changes.
Billing is the first thing, and the thing that breaks most
Laced cannot take an entry without a billing profile. That is the rule the rest of the app is built on, and it is also the most common reason a release goes past somebody who thought they were ready. Set billing up when you install the app, not in the minutes before a drop.
A billing profile is a card plus the address that belongs to it. You enter it once. Laced holds it so that a drop is not a form-filling exercise at the moment the draw goes live.
What happens after you tap Create
Laced checks what you typed when you tap Create. It catches details that cannot be right, for example a Zip that is not valid for a US address. If everything passes, the sheet closes by itself and the profile appears on the Billing page. There is nothing to wait for and no status to read.
If something is wrong, the sheet does not close. You get a message and a red border on the field that needs fixing. Fix it and tap Create again. A profile that did not pass is not created.
That check is about what you typed, and it is built to follow Nike’s own address rules as closely as it can. Nike’s answer about the card and address only arrives when the draw goes live, and that is where Address Invalid, Card Invalid and Card Expired come from. They catch what a typing check cannot, such as an address that does not match what your bank holds. Billing errors explains each one.
Why it has to be right before the Draw goes live
Nike charges winners at the moment the order is placed. Payment is not a step you complete afterwards at your own pace, it happens as part of the order going through. An expired card, a card the bank declines, or an address that does not match the card are all ways to be selected in a Draw and still not end up with the shoe. How SNKRS draws work goes through the rest of that sequence.
This failure is almost entirely preventable. It costs nothing to create your profiles a day ahead, or a few hours at least, so a mistyped address is a quiet fix on an ordinary afternoon and not a problem under a countdown. It is a good habit, not a requirement.
What Laced holds, and what it does not
Card numbers are never stored on our servers. Addresses and similar non-sensitive details are stored encrypted on your own device. When an order is placed, that happens between your device and Nike. We are not in the middle of the payment, which is also why we cannot reverse or refund anything Nike charges you.
Keep it current
Billing is not a one-time task, it is a thing that decays. Cards expire. Banks reissue numbers after a fraud flag. People move house. Any of those turns a profile that worked in June into a profile that fails in September.
Two habits cover it. Update a profile as soon as your bank sends you a new card, and look through Billing before a week in which you plan to enter.
If you run more than one profile, every one of them needs the same treatment. Your plan sets how many profiles you can hold, and profiles and upgrades covers what that means in practice. For the specific error text the app can show, and what each message is actually telling you, read billing errors.
If something goes wrong
Create does not close the sheet
Why it happens: A detail was not accepted, so Laced shows a message and puts a red border on that field.
Fix the field with the red border and tap Create again. The profile is not created until the details go through.
A launch shows Address Invalid
Why it happens: Nike did not accept the address when the draw went live, usually because Address Line 1 does not match what the card issuer holds.
Open the profile in Billing and correct Address Line 1 before the next release. A missing unit number, an abbreviated street type and a shortened suburb are the three we see most.
A launch shows Card Invalid or Card Expired
Why it happens: Nike did not accept the card when the draw went live. A digit is wrong, the expiry has passed, or the bank has reissued the card with a new number.
Open the profile in Billing and re-enter the number, expiry and security code from the card itself rather than from memory, before the next release.
Questions people ask
How do I know a billing profile worked?
The create screen closes and the profile appears on the Billing page. If a detail was not accepted, Laced shows a message and a red border on that field, and the profile is not created until you fix it.
Do I need to set up billing before drop day?
Nothing in the app waits on it, and you can create a profile any time before you create an entry. We do recommend a day ahead, or a few hours at least. It is better safe than sorry, and a mistyped address is easier to fix on a quiet afternoon.
Does Laced store my card details?
No. Card numbers are never stored on our servers. Addresses and similar non-sensitive details are held encrypted on your own device, and payment happens between your device and Nike at the moment an order is placed.
Why does billing have to be right before the Draw rather than after?
Because Nike charges winners as the order is placed. There is no gap between the result and the payment in which to fix a card. A card that cannot pay is an entry that cannot turn into an order.
