How did it actually go out?

As a draw, at least for the kids’ sizes.

Nike’s launch record for both kids’ runs shows a 10:00am Eastern start and the LEO method. A LEO draw takes entries for about two minutes, with no timer on the page. Nike then picks winners at random from every entry made in that window, and Got ‘Em and Missed ‘Em go out within minutes.

What the records do not show

The adult pair’s launch record is no longer there. Once a release is over, Nike lists the shoe as ordinary stock and drops the launch details. Its method cannot be read back from the feed. We will not guess at it.

What released alongside it?

Two more pieces, the same day.

A Kobe Mambacurial men’s basketball T-shirt at $55, and a Kobe “Mambacurial” Premium basketball at $150. Neither is a shoe. The release calendar lists apparel and equipment as well as shoes whenever Nike launches them as a draw.

Why do people mix it up with the Mambacita?

Because both are Kobe 8 Protros, and both names start the same way.

The Mambacita is FV6325-100, in White, Metallic Gold and Black. It is a different shoe from a different release. If you are checking a listing, a receipt or a resale page, the style code settles it in a way the nickname cannot.

What does it tell you about the Kobe calendar?

That the length of the draw matters as much as the date.

Every Kobe on the US calendar is a draw, and the recent ones are the short kind. The Mambacurial’s kids’ sizes were a LEO draw, and so was the Kobe 3 Protro on Saturday 26 September. That is about two minutes of entries from 10:00am Eastern, with no timer. It rewards having everything ready before it goes live, because there is no time to fix anything after that. The live calendar shows the length of every draw as it is published.

Questions people ask

What is the style code of the Kobe 8 Protro Mambacurial?

IO6253-500 for the adult pair, in Red Plum, Pink Flash and Electric Green at $200 retail. The kids' sizes carry their own codes, IR1853-500 for big kids and IR1854-500 for little kids.

Was the Kobe 8 Mambacurial a draw?

Yes, for the kids' sizes at least. Nike's launch record shows a LEO draw at 10:00am Eastern on 19 September, which takes entries for about two minutes. The adult pair's launch record is no longer in Nike's feed, so its method cannot be confirmed from it.

What else released with the Mambacurial?

A Kobe Mambacurial men's basketball T-shirt at $55, and a Kobe "Mambacurial" Premium basketball at $150, both listed by Nike on the same day. Neither was a footwear release.

Is the Mambacurial the same shoe as the Mambacita?

No. The Mambacita is a different Kobe 8 Protro, FV6325-100, in White, Metallic Gold and Black. The two names are easy to confuse, and the style code is the reliable way to tell them apart.
